At the time,I talked with her about ”the dangers” while also validating how good it felt to have someone notice you etc. I told her she was not to give him her number. So, now they’re texting and she’s grinning and blushing and feeling all special. My mother-bear self wants to lay down the law and tell her no way in hell is she going to be dating an 18 year old who we know nothing about.
There’s a chance that he’s a friend of a friend of a friend! On the other hand, my saying that will only encourage her as she is seriously rebelling these days. If you are a student pastor or a leader in a youth group, you probably have been faced with this concept and question in your mind at some point. If you are a student reading this post, you probably have been faced with the frustration of the rules that a youth pastor or leader put on you for dating. You cannot control dating. That is a parent decision. It is not up to you to tell students that they cannot date someone of the opposite sex. So, the answer to this blog post is fairly simple, you cannot control it, but I want to take this discussion to a different level, how do we approach dating in our youth group?
I tend to take a more conservative approach to this than most. I look at teen dating as a waste of time, personally. Please do not be offended by that, but the odds are slim to none that a relationship in middle school and high school will continue. Some do, and that is great, but many do not. More often, I see relationships built in student ministry, and then a result is horrible and ugly break ups that affect the friendships, cause drama and, in a lot of cases, tend to be uncomfortable for other students surrounding these dating issues.
Teach the students and their parents that youth group is not a dating activity.

A complex combination of factors can impact youth health outcomes. LGB youth are at greater risk for depression, suicide, substance use, and sexual behaviors that can place them at increased risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases STDs. For example, research has shown that in schools with LGB support groups such as gay-straight alliances , LGB students were less likely to experience threats of violence, miss school because they felt unsafe, or attempt suicide than those students in schools without LGB support groups.
Parental rejection has been linked to depression, use of drugs and alcohol, and risky sexual behavior among teens. If bullying, violence, or depression is suspected, parents should take immediate action, working with school personnel and other adults in the community.

He writes the Sociological Eye on Education blog — where this post first appeared — for The Hechinger Report, a nonprofit, non-partisan education-news outlet affiliated with the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media. By Aaron Pallas bigstock She was, according to this report, the worst eighth-grade math teacher in New York City, where she has taught since Abbott sought out her principal, who reassured her that she was an excellent teacher and that the Teacher Data Reports bore no relation to her performance.
But, the principal confided, she was worried; although she would enthusiastically recommend Abbott for tenure, the Teacher Data Report could count against her in the tenure process. With a new district superintendent reviewing the tenure recommendation, anything could happen. Carolyn Abbott was, in one respect, a victim of her own success. After a year in her classroom, her seventh-grade students scored at the 98th percentile of New York City students on the state test.
As eighth-graders, they were predicted to score at the 97th percentile on the state test. However, their actual performance was at the 89th percentile of students across the city. That shortfall — the difference between the 97th percentile and the 89th percentile — placed Abbott near the very bottom of the 1, eighth-grade mathematics teachers in New York City. How could this happen? Anderson is an unusual school, as the students are often several years ahead of their nominal grade level.
The material covered on the state eighth-grade math exam is taught in the fifth or sixth grade at Anderson.
